Maulkorb als Tierquälerei? Die Wahrheit über Komfort und Training

Muzzles as animal cruelty? The truth about comfort and training

The Preconception: "Poor Dog!"

Do you know the feeling? You're walking your muzzled dog and you get pitying glances. Many people immediately think of cruelty, restriction, and discomfort.

However, the reality is completely different – if you pay attention to a few important things.

A well-fitting muzzle is like a pair of glasses

As muzzle experts, we can say from daily experience: A properly fitted and positively trained muzzle is barely noticed by the dog after a short time.

The Two Pillars of Muzzle Success

For your dog to accept the muzzle without problems, two factors are crucial:

1. The right fit

An optimally fitting muzzle must:

  • Be made of the appropriate material
  • Neither pinch nor be too large
  • Have a secure, stable fit
  • Allow a clear field of vision
  • Allow panting, drinking, and yawning

Important for summer: Dogs regulate their body temperature by panting. A muzzle that is too small can be life-threatening in summer! That's why good muzzles often appear very large at first glance.

2. The right training

The best fit is useless if the dog associates the muzzle with negative experiences. Therefore, positive, patient acclimatization is indispensable.

"The muzzle is far too big!" – Why size saves lives

Many people, when they see pictures of our dogs, think: "The whole head could fit in there!" or "That's almost a shopping basket!"

The reason is vital: The difference in space a dog needs when panting is enormous. There's a world of difference between a relaxed mouth and maximum panting on hot days.

A dog that cannot pant properly:

  • Cannot cool down
  • May suffer heatstroke
  • Is exposed to massive stress

Restrictions? Not at all!

When used correctly, the muzzle does not restrict your dog. On the contrary: It often enables freedoms that would not be possible without it.

Showing responsibility does not mean torturing your dog – but enabling a safe, relaxed coexistence for him and others.

In the next article, we will show you how to find the perfect muzzle for your dog and what really matters when it comes to material.
